Frequently Asked Questions

Following are the answers to frequently asked questions about the SuperCruise.

Q. Who is the organizer of the SuperCruise?

A. Capital Jazz Productions (CJP) is the producer of the SuperCruise. For over 25 years, CJP has produced the annual Capital Jazz Fest, one of the world's premier music festivals, held each June in suburban Washington, D.C. since 1993. CJP is 100% African-American owned.

Q. Is the SuperCruise a full-ship charter cruise?

A. Yes. CJP charters an entire ship for each year's SuperCruise sailing. CJP also programs all of the entertainment and activities during the cruise. When inquiring about a theme cruise, always ask if it is a full-ship charter. Be wary of partial-ship charter cruises that falsely claim to be full-ship charters. You can always verify this by calling the cruise line directly.

Q. From where does the SuperCruise embark?

A. The 2017 SuperCruise embarks from Pier 88 in New York City.

Q. What is the deposit amount required to reserve a cabin for the SuperCruise?

A. A deposit of $300 per person (or $600 per person for suites) is required to reserve a cabin on the SuperCruise. Your reservation cannot be completed until deposits are paid for all parties listed on the reservation. If only one party will be occupying a double-occupancy cabin, a $600 deposit will be required (or $1,200 for suites). Initial deposits must be made by credit or debit card only. Checks are not accepted for deposits.

Q. What is the refund policy for the SuperCruise?

A. For reservations made through the Cutoff Date, deposits are fully-refundable, for any reason, until 15 days after the date of initial booking. Guests canceling their reservations after 15 days will forfeit their deposit and any payments made. For reservations made after the Cutoff Date, all deposits and payments are non-refundable.
For the 2017 cruise, the Cutoff Date is May 31, 2017.

Q. Is a passport required?

A. All passengers on the SuperCruise are required to have a valid passport. Passengers denied boarding due to lack of a valid passport will not receive a refund.

Q. Will I be permitted to smoke during the cruise?
A. The SuperCruise is a non-smoking cruise. No smoking is permitted in cabins, balconies, or any public areas (neither indoor nor outdoor). An indoor smoking lounge is available on Deck 8 for guests who wish to smoke on the ship.

Q. Are children permitted on the SuperCruise?

A. Bringing children is permitted, but not encouraged. There are no onboard activities for children during the SuperCruise and all children's venues on the ship will be closed. Pricing for adults and children is the same, regardless of age. Note: Any guests under the age of 21 must be accompanied by a parent, grandparent, or guardian 25 years or older staying in the same cabin.

Q. Are there discounts for groups?

A. Our groups program has been discontinued.

Q. I cannot make the entire cruise. Am I able to board or disembark in Bermuda?

A. All guests on the SuperCruise must embark and disembark in New York. Disembarking the cruise in Bermuda may result in fines or detainment by local authorities.

Q. Are cabins available for solo travelers?

A. Yes. The Norwegian Breakaway offers studio cabins, specifically for solo travelers. Located in a private area of the ship, the studios also include access to the Studio Lounge, a private lounge shared only by Studio guests.

Q. What if I am traveling solo but don't want to stay in a Studio cabin?

A. A referral service is available for solo travelers seeking a cabin-mate. Please inquire about this when making your reservation. Note: This is a referral service only. Guests are still responsible for selecting their own cabin-mates. For parties sharing a cabin and paying separately, all parties must be paid in full before any other party is allowed to check in for the cruise. If all rooming parties are not paid in full by the final payment due date, the cabin may be canceled with no refund to any party.

Q. What is the cost for having more than two persons sharing a cabin?

A. There are a limited number of triple, quad, quintuple (5-person), and sextuple (6-person) cabins on the ship. For these cabins, the first two guests are each charged the full double-occupancy price. Additional guests in the same cabin are each charged half of the double-occupancy price.

Q. Is airfare included in the price of the SuperCruise?

A. No. If you will be flying to New York, you will be responsible for your own air travel cost.

Q. Why are the taxes and fees higher this year?

A. Cruises sailing from New York City are subject to higher port charges than cruises sailing from Florida. Also, cruises to Bermuda are subject to higher port charges than cruises to most Caribbean ports.

Q. Will there be a host hotel for guests arriving prior to the day of sailing?

A. Yes. Please visit the TRAVEL INFO section of this web site for more details.

Q. When is the cutoff date for reserving a cabin?

A. Reservations will end when the ship is sold out or one week prior to sailing, whichever occurs first. Please check our PRICING page for updated cabin availability.

Q. Is there a shuttle from the airport to the ship?

A. Yes. All guests on the SuperCruise will receive complimentary shuttle service between the airport and ship on the days of embarkation and disembarkation. For the 2017 cruise, the service will be available to and from LaGuardia (LGA), Kennedy International (JFK), and Newark International (EWR) airports.

Q. I have sailed before on the Norwegian Breakaway. Will I see the same theatrical productions during the SuperCruise that I've previously seen on this ship?

A. No. Theatrical productions typically scheduled on Norwegian Breakaway sailings will not take place during the sailing of the SuperCruise. All entertainment on the SuperCruise is produced and programmed by Capital Jazz Productions.

Q. I am a member of Norwegian Cruise Lines' Latitudes Rewards Program. Will I receive credit for sailing on the SuperCruise?

A. Any questions about NCL's rewards programs should be directed to the cruise line.

Q. Is travel insurance recommended for this cruise?

A. Yes. For details on purchasing travel insurance, please visit our travel insurance info page. LEARN MORE.

Q. What happens in the event of a hurricane?

A. It is rare for a cruise cancellation to occur due to an impending hurricane. Typically, an itinerary deviation is implemented to avoid a storm.

Q. Will I experience motion sickness?

A. Most passengers do not experience motion sickness while sailing on large cruise ships. For those guests who are prone to motion sickness, Meclizine (Bonine) is available on the ship free of charge. If you are concerned about motion sickness, please consult your doctor prior to the cruise for prescription motion sickness patches or wristbands, as the ship does not carry these items.

Q. Can I travel on the SuperCruise if I am pregnant?

A. In accordance with Norwegian's pregnancy policy, pregnant women are only allowed to sail if pregnant for less than 24 weeks at time of cruise disembarkation. All pregnant women are required to produce a physician’s letter stating that mother and baby are in good health, fit to travel, and the pregnancy is not high-risk. The letter must also include the estimated date of delivery (EDD).

Q. Can I wash clothes while on board?
A. A laundry and dry-cleaning service is available on the Norwegian Breakaway. However, no self-service laundry machines are available.

Q. When will information be available on the next year's cruise?
A. Details on our 12th annual SuperCruise will be announced in September 2017.
