Frequently Asked Questions

Following are the answers to frequently asked questions about the SuperCruise.

Q. Who is the organizer of the SuperCruise?

A. Capital Jazz Productions (CJP) is the producer of the SuperCruise. For 20 years, CJP has produced the annual Capital Jazz Fest, one of the world's premier music festivals, held each June in suburban Washington, D.C. since 1993. CJP also operates two 24-hour online radio stations: Capital Jazz Radio and Capital Jazz Lounge. CJP is 100% African-American owned.

Q. Is the SuperCruise a full-ship charter cruise?

A. Yes. CJP charters an entire ship for each year's SuperCruise sailing. CJP also programs all of the entertainment and activities during the cruise. When inquiring about a theme cruise, always ask if it is a full-ship charter. Don't be fooled by partial-ship charter cruises that claim to be theme cruises.

Q. From where does the SuperCruise depart?

A. The SuperCruise VI embarks from the Port Everglades cruise terminal in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Please visit the ITINERARY page to see the complete itinerary for the 2012 cruise.

Q. What is the deposit amount required to reserve a cabin for the SuperCruise?

A. For the 2012 cruise, a $300 per person deposit is required, with monthly payments due on the 15th of each month, beginning on January 15, 2012. Final balance is due by July 15, 2012. You will receive a monthly statement showing your outstanding balance.

Q. What is the refund policy for the 2012 SuperCruise?

A. For reservations made through June 30, 2012, deposits are fully-refundable, for any reason, until 15 days after the date of initial booking. Guests canceling their reservations after 15 days will forfeit their deposit and any payments made. For reservations made after June 30, 2012, all deposits and payments are non-refundable.

Q. Is a passport required?

A. All passengers on the SuperCruise require a valid passport. Passengers denied boarding due to lack of a valid passport will not receive a refund.

Q. What is the weather like at the ports we will be visiting in 2012?

A. Following are the average temperatures in October for each of the ports of call on the 2012 SuperCruise:

        St. Lucia: Hi 87°F / Lo 73°F

        Antigua: Hi 87°F / Lo 77°F

        St. Maarten/St. Martin: Hi 89°F / Lo 79°F

Q. Will I be permitted to smoke during the cruise?
A. The SuperCruise is a non-smoking cruise. A designated smoking area on the Deck 3 outer deck (starboard side only) has been reserved for guests who wish to smoke.

Q. Are children permitted on the SuperCruise?

A. Bringing children is permitted, but not encouraged. There are no onboard activities for children during the SuperCruise and all children's venues on the ship will be closed. Pricing for adults and children is the same, regardless of age.

Q. Are there discounts for groups?

A. We offer incentives for groups booking ten (10) or more cabins on the SuperCruise. For more info, please visit our GROUPS page.

Q. I cannot make the entire cruise. Am I able to start or end my cruise at a port other than Fort Lauderdale?

A. All guests on the SuperCruise must embark from Fort Lauderdale on Oct 20 and disembark in Fort Lauderdale on Oct 28. Disembarking the cruise at any port-of-call may result in fines or detainment by local authorities.

Q. Are cabins available for solo travelers?

A. Cabins are sold as double-occupancy, even if only one person occupies the cabin. Thus, solo travelers must pay twice the double-occupancy rate.

Q. What if I don't have a cabin-mate and don't want to pay for a single cabin?

A. A referral service is available for solo travelers seeking a cabin-mate. Please inquire about this when making your reservation. Note: This is a referral service only. Guests are still responsible for selecting their own cabin-mates. For parties sharing a cabin and paying separately, all parties must be paid in full before any other party is allowed to check in for the cruise. If all rooming parties are not paid in full by the final payment due date, the cabin will be canceled with no refund to any party.

Q. What is the cost for having a third or fourth person sharing a cabin?

A. There are a limited number of triple and quad-occupancy cabins on the ship. For these cabins, the first two guests are each charged the full double-occupancy price. Additional guests in the same cabin are each charged half of the double-occupancy price.

Q. Is airfare included in the price of the SuperCruise?

A. No, but we've arranged for discounts on certain airlines for travelers flying to Fort Lauderdale or Miami to attend the SuperCruise. Please check our web site beginning in February 2012 for more details.

Q. Will there be a host hotel in Fort Lauderdale for guests arriving prior to the day of sailing?

A. Yes. Please visit our FORT LAUDERDALE info web page for details on our host hotel.

A. Reservations will end when the ship is sold out or one week prior to sailing, whichever occurs first. Please check our PRICING page for updated cabin availability.

Q. Is there a shuttle from the airport to the ship?

Q. Are tickets required for admission to the nightly headline concerts?

A. Tickets are not required, but show seating is based on dining assignments. Early dining guests are assigned to the late show seating, while late dining guests are assigned to the early show seating.

Q. Do we sell trip insurance?

A. We do not sell this insurance, but you can review various insurance options at www.insuremytrip.com.

Q. Will I experience motion sickness?

If you are concerned about motion sickness, please consult your doctor prior to the cruise for prescription motion sickness patches or wristbands, as the ship does not carry these items.

Q. If I book a cabin on Deck 1, will my cabin be below sea level?

A. No. All passenger cabins on all decks are well above sea level.

Q. Can I wash clothes while on board?
A. In addition to its dry-cleaning and laundry service, the ship also has self-service launderettes with washers, dryers, irons, and ironing boards. A nominal fee per load is charged for use of the washers and dryers. Vending machines dispense small boxes of detergent and water softener.
